What does your company do?
We provide educational arts workshops and longer arts residencies in all arts disciplines for all ages. We alsocreate and tour original theatreworks as well as collaborations on contemporary issues.
What’s new for your company in 2014?
We’re touring 3 shows for children and youth dealing with bullying, mental health and good nutrition/fitness, plus workshops and arts residencies in theatre, dance, music and visual art with numerous youth-serving agencies. We’ll be scheduling summer perfornaces of Hansel and Gretel–A Cautionary Tale in collaboration with Quasimondo Physical Theatre. We’re also be in many parades and events, including two major community-building parade projects:
Milwaukee Latino Carnaval and The ARTery Puppet Parade and Pageant. And we’re planning a dynamite 40th Anniversary Celebration: the Milwaukee Public Theatre Steampunk Circus of Metamorphosis!
What opportunities do you have for Milwaukee creatives?
We invite creatives to join us to make and perform with puppets, floats, steampunk costumes. We’ll send a complete schedule in May.
Do you have any upcoming events?
We’ll be holding Saturday workshops open to the public in May through July in preparation for the parades and our Steampunk Circus on September 19th, 6-10 PM at the Historic Plankinton Building, 161 W. Wisconsin Avenue, across from the rotunda.
Why do you see Milwaukee as a good city for creatives?
There’s strong interest/excitement about re-creating our city by creatives and great receptivity on the part of city officials and community agencies.
