Design: Communications

Communication design is the largest of the segments in the region. The cluster accounts for around 19,800 jobs, which amounts to 40 percent of the regional creative sector. Communication design includes a range of industries such as graphic design firms, advertising firms, and printing firms. More than half of the employment in the communications design segment comes from the commercial printing industries. Printing companies dominate the employment, with 40 percent of the jobs in commercial lithographic printing businesses. The printing industries have very high employment concentrations — two to five times the national average.
